The New Rules of Dating

If you’re entering the dating scene for the first time in years, you’ll want to brush up on a few things. Dating is not the same as it used to be, and you may find that to be a good thing.

Match.com took a close look at how singles handle dating in the 21st century, and the results were interesting!

After surveying over 5,000 American singles, Match discovered that while the conventional dating standards are still relevant, the rules have been contemporized due to technology.

Let’s take a look at some of the new rules of dating.

Women want their independence.

Women have a reputation for being needy and clingy, but this isn’t always the case. In fact, today’s females are more independent than ever before. They are more likely than men to want their own interests, bank accounts, personal space and regular nights out with friends.

Men want marriage and kids.

Today’s males are just as inclined to want marriage and kids as women. As a matter of fact, 24 percent of male singles without children under 18 say they want kids compared to 15 percent of women.

Single parents make time for dating.

To much surprise, single parents go on more dates than singles without kids. Also, more single parents are currently dating someone than those without kids, 21 percent and 16 percent, respectively.

Saying “I love you” doesn’t mean a serious commitment.

Just because you tell someone you love them doesn’t mean there’s wedding bells in the background. Thirty-one percent of singles believe that “I love you” is another way of saying “I want you in my life.” Thirty percent think that it means “I care about you.” Far less believe that saying “I love you” implies what it says. Interesting.

Casual hook-ups can turn into relationships.

Match found that young people aren’t nearly as promiscuous as the statistics lead us to believe. Many are not interested in casual hook-ups, and more young people are happy to have not been intimate. On the flip side, some people don’t mind the casual rendezvous because they believe it can turn into something more serious.

Conclusion

Dating in the 21st century has certainly changed, in part, because of technology and social media. While the internet has provided people with more options than ever before, it’s also easier to hide your true identity.

If you’re interested in dating or feel that you are ready to meet someone, protect yourself by running a background check or hiring a private investigator. You should never be embarrassed to protect yourself and your family, and it’s a step more singles are taking.
